IELTS and TOEFL are the two most popular exams for showing your basic level of understanding about the English language.These exams are mainly conducted for the international students that are unfamiliar with the English language and want to study abroad for millions of career opportunities.


TOEFL is the oldest as compared to IELTS.Both of them are accepted by the best institutions globally.Both of these exam's have 4 sections that are reading, writing, speaking and listening.


Before moving to the similarities or dissimilarities between IELTS and TOEFL, let's talk about each of them individually.


TOEFL means a Test of English as a Foreign Language.It is an English language ability test composed  by the US-based ETS (Education Test Service).

IELTS 'full form is the International English Language Testing System. It is conducted by IDP Australia, The British Council, and Cambridge Examinations.

What is IELTS?

IELTS is the (International English Language Testing System) conducted by IDP Australia, The British Council, and Cambridge Examinations in 1989 first time.This exam checks the ability or basic understanding of the English language of  an individual.It has four sections including reading, listening, writing and speaking. 

  • You can choose either paper or computer based mode for your test.

  • Speaking test is done with a real human who can show his feelings, emotions,gestures etc to you and can give you feedback which will definitely help you to mend your mistakes.

  • Writing part is done on a sheet of paper. You can use a pencil for deep analysis.

  • It has only 1 test for 4 parts.

  • The duration of this test is 2 hours and 45 minutes.

  • It has a 0 to 9 point rating.

  • It has a high difficulty level.



What is TOEFL?


The Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) is a regularised test to check a basic understanding of the English language of a student.It is regularised in 190 countries all over the world.It is conducted by Education Testing Service (ETS), a recognised US-based commercial non-profit organisation that provides you three different modes for attempt the test.

1.at an exam centre.

2.at a home with the home edition test. 

3.On paper with the TOEFL iBT paper edition test.

  • The speaking part consists of listening to a vocal recording on the computer and answering the question in the mike.

  • The writing portion consists of answering questions on a computer.

  • 4 tests for the 4 sections that are speaking, writing, listening and reading.

  • Its duration is almost 3 hours.

  • It has a 120 point rating.

  • It has Average level of difficulty.


Which test is best, IELTS or TOEFL

TOEFL:
